Bald Eagle
by Dennis Plank
One of my few Eagle flight shots from the Klamath Basin, though that was my main goal in going there. Other photographers I talked with there were commenting on the scarcity and flightiness of the birds this year. While they will still there, it was apparent that the drought has affected the wintering populations numbers. The Tule Lake preserve has a set of old power poles along the dike road that are heavily used by Eagles. This one was pretty cooperative and actually flew off and returned twice in response to ravens. This was my favorite shot.
1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held with elbow braced on window sill, f5.6, 1/2500, iso 400, Av mode with +1 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped a touch on the right and top to a final size of 12.3MP. Taken February 19th at 11:16 am. Partly cloudy skies and still some snow on the ground.
Your comments and criticisms are very much appreciated.
