Nikon D4
600mm with out TC
1/1250
ISO 1250
F/5
Manual
Center weighted Avg Metered off the water (white water)
WB auto
Raw
Shot on 6-7-13
Cropped from 16.2 M pixels down to 2.694 M pixels (84% crop)
LR4 and PE9

More peregrines. This is one of the 4 juvis that I caught preening on a rocky outcropping a LONG way away. Not as sharp as I wanted because of the huge crop but I thought this one was pretty cute. These birds had fledged only a couple days before this was taken so their feathers are still not fully developed.
The juvi coloration is quite different from the adults. The feet are a very muted yellow and the eye and beak area are a bluish color rather than the bright yellow of the adults and the feathers are brown and rust colored.
After taking their first flights they had almost no fear often attacking anything that flew including pelicans several times their size. They are pure comedy to watch on the cliffs often playing with sticks and rocks.
Anyway, hope you like this one for the cute factor. Please excuse the lack of sharpness.

Outstanding detail for so large a crop! Unorthodox pose, placement and perch, but in my opinion works very well! :toast:

Sweet preening shot, David. I love the spread tail and backward head. The sharpness looks fine up to the 1200 pixel level.

Nice capture. The behavior is interesting to see as is the difference in plumage to the adults. Well Done.

David, this held up VERY well for such a large crop. I like the comp, the behavior and the BG is pretty cool also. Nice work

Interesting to read about how they go after things and the difference in plumage. I guess you can call that an 'attitude' but if you are a peregrine with those type of flight skills why not. The image has nice detail and it must be a real treat to watch these birds.
