This month is 10 years for me here on NPN. Hard to believe that all those years have gone by, but it sure has been a wonderful time and full of learning. The change from film to digital was such a big change for me and I had so much to learn and I'm still learning.
This is a picture Tom Haxby shot of me (D800e) at the Ice Caves on Lake Superior just over a week ago. Tom and I met up here to spend some time working together on some new images at the Ice Caves near Cornucopia, WI. This was the first access to the caves in 5 years so we didn't want to miss it. We had a great time over the couple of days we spent here. We pulled a simple plastic sled out here with all of our gear in it and that was an easy way of getting it out there, especially when Tom was pulling the sled.

Cheers, Nick

Why the limited access over the years?

William, It takes so much cold weather to get the ice safe enough so that you can make the 1 1/2 mile hike over the ice to the caves and I think if you go all the way to the last cave it is almost 3 miles. The last 5 years the ice just was not safe enough to get out to them. It takes some extreme cold temp to get Lake Superior freezing and this winter we got that early and it has stayed which made for the access this year. There has been a lot of 20 to 40 below zero F and even colder temps this winter. You probably have had that as well! By the way, I made a trip all the way around the lake and enjoyed the time I spent in Ontario. Cheers, Nick
