Cardinal

This past few days I have had several cardinals visiting our backyard. Lots of interaction with other birds. They do perch in our small trees which are loaded with small branches and twigs which make getting clear images of the birds a bit of a challenge.

Canon PS SX50
1/500 @ F-8 ISO 100
Canon 4.3-215 @ 215mm
Nice clear light (for a change)

Nice sharp image with good feather detail and beautiful color. I have the same situation with small branches and twigs in my backyard.

Superb detail in the plumage on this one, John. Small trees are really a pain when photographing birds. You can try putting up some simpler alternate perches (a single branch works nicely) near your feeders.

Nice looking Cardinal and for some reason that beak seems more red than I have seen in others, way to go.

I agree with Dennis, great detail/DOF John.
He made a good suggestion for alternate perches as well.
Beautiful shade of red, nice shot:toast:

Nice work managing the reds. I selectively prune branches to create distraction-free perches, but some species avoid perches in the open. My experience with Cardinals is too limited to know their preference.

Nice details for shooting through the branches. I like the setting, but do wish the crest wasn't touching that branch. Sharon
