Ramon Ibex

A big Ibex ram on the rim of the Ramon Crater in Southern Israel. This was full frame, no cropping. I realize that it is tight, but what I like about this image is the closeup view of the eye and texture of the horns. These are just beautiful animals and I think this particular image captures that very well. You also get a good look at the terrain, that is pretty desolate. Very little vegetation, but these guys find enough food and water in an environment that looks, to our eyes, to be incapable of supporting life. The natural world never ceases to amaze me.

Comments and critiques welcome.

I agree Jerry .... It is tight but you get to see the great amount of detail on those big horns.

Nice portrait of this ibex. Good detail. Just wondering if you could have shot from a slightly lower position, if the horns would have stood out from the BG more. Thanks for sharing.

Given he is pretty tight on the sides, I think if you cropped a slice from the top, perhaps to a 4x5 ratio, it would feel more deliberate than accidental. Slight brightness/contrast boost on just the ram might lift him from the background a little more, too. Love the eye.
