Liriope

Liriope, or sometimes known as Lilyturf, is a grass-like groundcover that comes in many different types. The flowers are pretty but I especially like the plant for use as a filler or for lining the edge of a flowerbed. Grows very easily in our area, in sun or shade, and is easily divided.

Canon 60D. 180mm macro lens. F/4 for 1/20 sec. ISO 320. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

I like the comp, colors, and bg. The purple border frames the image very nicely.

I loved the thumbnail, but find the actual image suffering due to lack of (consistent) DOF in the purple flowers, and/or perhaps the motion of the flowers also. They are the eye catchers here, more so than the variegated plant. Reading your specs, you obviously did not have much light, plus you probably had to contend with some wind. The post processing looks fine, as is the composition, but alas...the lack of "purple" focus makes it a deal breaker, IMO.
In Tennessee, I have these following my walkway from the street to the house, plus as border plants elsewhere - both variegated and non-variegated. We call it "Monkey" grass. Thanks for the more accurate naming.

I think I might like more depth of focus in this case Carolyn. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks for the comments! I agree the focus leaves something to be desired. I think I got enamored with the colors and background, and didn't pay enough attention to the focal point. This is where NPN can be so helpful to get other viewpoints. Maybe I'll play around with some softening filters for this image and see what I come up with.
