January Thaw II

Last week I posted "January Thaw" , I also shot this wider view with my 14 mm. lens, using a faster shutter speed to capture the bubbly texture of the water in the foreground. (Also, the closer the water is, the less you need long shutter speeds to get some motion blur.)

This wider view adds another element in the foreground water, but also it kind of dilutes the concentration on the mini-waterfall and the snowy sapling. On the other hand, with more snow and a little more of a "bright" feeling in the action of the water, I think it has more of the lighter, happier feeling I was after. Which do you think is better?

Canon 5D3; 14 mm.
1/15 sec. @ f/16; ISO 100
B&W conversion with Nik Silver Efex plus additional curves adjustments in PS6

Both are nice images, Wayne, but I really prefer the previous version with the sapling and waterfall more prominent. Nice work on both. Chet

Wayne, I think I prefer the first image also. It conveys an intimacy that this more expansive image does not. I do like the water action and SS in the foreground , but not enough to win me over.

I like both, but for different reasons. This one for the strong foreground and detail there which leads me right up the to the trees in the background. The first for it's focus on the sapling and the fallen tree. Both excellent images, Wayne. The conversions are very well done in both.

Both work for me Wayne for different reasons. The first was a more intimate scene and in this one the water action in the FG is superb. You can not go wrong with either one IMO.

I like both, but this one slightly better. I like the water action in the close fg, which draws me in and creates a more intimate feel. Nice shots Wayne :)

I agree with liking both images Wayne but this one appeals more to me for the detail in the water and the composition. Both are very nice.

I like it and I like the feelings that it evokes - cold winter, but motion, movement, dynamic...

Tim!
