Platte sunset

With all the Bosque crane posts lately I thought I'd post a spring crane migration through the central flyway image. While I wished for more reach on this shot from last March I think it captures some of the feeling of sunset along the Platte river in mid March. If you look closely in the center of the frame you'll see a lone Whooping crane on the sand bar. Every year I look forward to visiting the blinds in March to experience the magic of the migration. I urge anyone who has been captivated by Sandhill cranes to visit the Platte during the annual migration, it is truly magical.

Funny...I was just looking at an article on bird festivals in the US. I put this one on my bucket list! Nice warm light and a wonderful congregation. Thanks for sharing! Sharon

Great scene, and a Whooper to boot. Doesn't get much better than that. Lovely image.

Beautiful, John. And the Platte during crane migration certainly is a magical place.

Saw the Whooper before reading your post; it really pops out. Nice.

Great pano slice of this landscape, nice warm sunset colors & light.
I live on this Central Flyway here in Texas, gives me a good variety of songbirds throughout the year.
Like all the activity in your birdscape, well done John:toast:
