Time Out

Out early this morning, I came upon this grey squirrel quietly moving about on the ground. I debated whether to set up for photos or not as squirrels are pretty well known for scampering around and not staying still except for brief stops. Well, he seemed to not be bothered by me, so I set up and got a series before he did run off. This was the best of the bunch in the classic sitting up on it's haunches pose. I thought this guy was kind of cute and it was a nice clear shot and a nice pose. Other than a major crop down to about 60% of the original, I didn't do much to it in LR. A few minor tweaks is all. Comments and critiques are welcome.

Cute little guy. Believe me, I know how difficult it is to photograph squirrells. They never seem to sit still. I would suggest an even tighter crop to eliminate some of the OOF vegetation on the right and bottom.

A good one Peter, nice of the squirrel to pose for you. I also would like to see the squirrel larger, but it is OK as is. You have good detail, but to me there is a slight magenta cast to the image. Thanks for sharing.

The pose is excellent. Detail looks fine. I agree closer would have been even better. Overall, this feels slightly underexposed and I think you can make it pop more opening up a bit, maybe a 1/3.

Hi Peter,

Put me in the camp of those who think this would benefit from being shot from closer and/or with a longer lens. I also noticed the faint magenta tinge on the squirrel and slight underexposure. Won't say much more on this one as I see you have a tighter re-post...

Cheers...
