There Be Monsters

Sony A77
Sony 16-50 @ 20mm
ISO 200, 1/30 @ f11

I remember seeing medieval maps of uncharted oceans noting that "There be monsters" beyond the known world. I suspect that if those old sailors had come across rocks like this they would have indeed felt that ship eating monsters were about. Taken at Bandon, Oregon one foggy morn in October. All comments welcome. >=))>

Very moody image with nice shapes Bill. Maybe a little more shadow detail in the front but very nice as is. Very nice.

Your monsters look great, Bill, nicely ominous in the the darkness. The sense of more lurking in the distance works nicely. I'd like a bit more space up top and there's a dust bunny (or maybe water drop?) near the middle of the left edge

Agree that just a bit more shadow detail in the foreground might work better. Love the mysterious menacing mood here. And yes that's a dust bunny I see on the left ;)

Cool composition. Love the way the foggy wizard's hat stack in the backround mirrors the curved rock formations in the foreground.

Great find, Bill. I don't recall seeing these before. (If I did, other photos did not make an impression on me the way this does.) It looks like this rocks really could eat ships, and the darkness of this image adds to that feeling for me.

Moody and mysterious, almost spooky. This is an excellent capture, mostly (IMO) due to the darker side of nature that it alludes to. Nice work

Nice narrative and I love the moody, mysterious atmosphere of this image, Bill. I like the way the sea stacks fade into the BG. My only suggestion would be a touch more shadow detail in the FG reflection along with cloning out that dust spot on the LS.

Bill, I like the silhouette look to this image. If you take the shadows away, where will the monsters hide?

Interesting shapes. It does create an almost mysterious mood. I like your comp a lot here, and how it limits the somewhat featureless sky, although the atmosphere does create the actual mood.

Just an excellent moody piece, Bill! You caught the fog layers at the perfect moment to reveal just enough of the back stacks to lend a ton of depth. The exposure is dead on as well. The comp has a great flow in the progressions as well. Please print this one LARGE and hang it on your wall! :toast:
