Early Morning Kingfisher

Belted Kingfisher ( Megaceryle alcyon )

Very early morning with the dew still on the spider web.

Sun has just broken above the trees and the morning glow is beautiful. I had a Vernal pond excavated awhile ago and have left an island with some dead and live trees still standing there. This guy was a regular visitor most mornings this season and has perched on this dead limb.

This is image was captured using jpg. I am now using RAW and find RAW much better overall!

Tripod mounted
Nikon lens 200-400mm VR 2.8 taken @ 400mm
Fuji S5 pro camera
speed 1/100 , F5, ISO 200
Manual exposure

Wild Kingfisher , Not baited, or called in .

Comments appreciated

Excellent work. Very good detail in the bird, just enough head turn to be interesting and nice background. The cobwebs are a bonus.

Unusual approach, this back-view - but it works very well for me ! Cheers, Hans

I like this, Bill. like Jim says, you've got just enough of a head turn to make this perspective work. details look great, and DOF is where it should be with the head and bill both nice and sharp at the expense of the tail.

This is nice...I like the different perspective from the rear. These darn birds are so difficult to get near...I guess sneaking up on them from the rear is a good approach! I'm a little confused by your comment: "This is an image captured using jpg and had not converted to RAW yet." I think you've got that turned around. Sharon

Neat composition and nice detail, Bill. To my eye, there appears to be a bit of a blue color cast.
