Snow Eagle

The eagles along the Mississippi look for open water in order to fish. On a couple of days during my trip to Wisconsin, the temperature dipped to 15 below zero. As a result, some of the normally open water areas that are sheltered, froze over. I saw this particular eagle digging in the snow and ice covered river looking for a meal. Not sure what he found, but I suspect it was a bit of frozen fish left over from a previous kill by another eagle or possibly an otter.

Comments and critiques welcome.

Nice job dealing with the bright snow and an interesting behavior shot. If this is full frame I might experiment with a closer crop to bring out the eagle. I like that you do not see any other foot prints in the snow.

Nice, Jerry. All that smooth snow really sets off the Eagle. Looks like the blue from the snow may be carried over as a blue color cast on the Eagle.

Good detail and interesting behavior, really like the piece of fish caught mid-air Jerry..
I'll bet the -15 temps made eating frozen leftovers a challenge for the eagle.
Well done :toast:
