Caught in a Web

I always wanted to photograph snowflakes. Not an easy task unless they are trapped on a spider web but even that was complicated due to the high blizzard winds we were experiencing today. We are expecting 12+ inches of snow through today and tomorrow. I know there is some motion blur and depth of field blur. I am going to try again tomorrow once the wind dies down. I am actually glad I was ably to capture this one. Hopefully the spider web will still be there.

It is so difficult, in windy conditions, to get sharp images of spider webs even without snow flakes. I think you have done remarkably well. Hope to see another.

That's fantastic Eva! While the slight blur of the snowflake may be a nit, the webs leading to out of focus adds. :toast:

Pretty cool, no pun intended! I actualy like the softer parts of the web, but the wind on the flake would be better if you get another chance. Maybe a shot at higher ISO for the flake, which should expose better than the dark background. A second shot at lower ISO for better noise control, then blend the 2. Hopefully the wind will slacken and none of this will be an issue. May head to the coast today and see what the storm has whipped up. Unfortunately too dry a snow and windy for trees and objects to get much of a coating :frown:

Wow, this is way cool. The flake on the right has a wonderful shape and the webbing makes for some interesting lines. Good luck with the wind, we got about 6 inches and some nice icy leaves from the sun melting the snow, but the wind has prevented getting any good shots...maybe tomorrow.

Love it, it's amazing what a snow flake really looks like, I tried this a few times with no success, you captured it beautifully, hope you get a chance to do it again. By the way. I'm in the same weather pattern as you, 13 below outside my door, and 14 " of fresh snow. Beautiful work Eva.
