hey guys,

to be honest shooting through airplane windows is not one of my favourite photographic disciplines. this scene grabbed me though and i just had to take a few shots. it turns out that (although technically not perfect) i really like the result. what do you guys think?

Rio Santa Cruz, Patagonia, Argentina

Canon 5DMKIII, EF 24-105 @ 96mm
ISO 200, f/4, 1/60
single exposure processed in LR4

best,
joerg

Wonderful shot Joerg, a rare and beautiful perspective. Other than some minor burning of certain parts of the river to bring it out more and a little cooling, I would crop out the sky entirely and create more of a pano with a focus on the river and sunlit hills. The color of the sky is strange, which maybe had to do with the window you were shooting through, but I also just think the image works better without it. Great shot!

That's a wonderful airplane grab Joerg. The serpentine river and side lighting are real eye-catching.

Composition and lighting work really well. It does have a polaroid filter look to it.

thanks for your comments!

@Thomas Haney
i never thought about cropping the sky - but that's indeed a fantastic idea and i'll play around with it. the sky colour is supposed to be more or less natural. at least i double checked white balance twice with other shots taken within a few minutes (also looking out the other side and including parts of the wings). it's been a few weeks since i shot this and in my memory the light was super-crazy - that's why i decided to leave the colours as presented...

@Kah Kit Yoong:
i think I overdid it a bit with the vignette here - and the unsual colours did the rest. no special treatment :wink:

I agree with John I'd love to see the river highlighted so its natural beauty is more the focus. Also the sky doesn't add to the composition. Nice find.
