Classic Etosha

It was splendid to see Etosha's plains and the Etosha Pan under massive clouds and storms. Here is a lone Oryx/Gemsbok standing on the pan (which already has a trace of surface water after the initial rains we witnessed).

I toned down the sky with the grad filter in LR to get it looking like I remember it (having exposed for the antelope in-camera).

Techs:
Nikon D800
Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 200mm
f8.0 | 1/250 SS | ISO-640

Morkel, that's a very alluring look at the Etosha Pan....I like it! The weather drama and interesting light sure transform what would otherwise be an arid scene. Bonus points for trained Oryx

I really like the minimalist composition Morkel. I haven't been to Etosha, but I can say there is a striking similarity to some of the alkali flats of southern Saskatchewan that I am quite familiar with, sans Oryx of course. Not many places to hide when those storm clouds roll in.

Morkel,
Great view expressing Etosha perfectly :toast:

Now you know why I return there so often, back again next September.

Amazing shot... Love the comp and setting with stunning BG. You certainly have some of the BEST images from Africa. :toast: :toast: :toast:

This is quite appealing. I like the layered background and sense of weather. Centered horizons are often considered less than perfect, but here it works fine, to my eye. Only wish, and it might not have been possible, would have been for a lower perspective to further flatten the foreground.

Nicely done Morkel! I love the moody sky and the way you framed the Gemsbok in the corner.

A SUPER image Morkel ! Like the setting and the stormy clouds in the BG add plenty to this frame. Nice processing too
