A nice young Male approached us at a nice angle in Kwara Reserve, Botswana

EOS 1DX
500mm F4 MkII
F5.6
ISO 400
1/3200
It was the rainy season hence the lush green in the background

Pops nicely from the vibrant green grass.
I would have liked to see this framed vertically - you could still crop it that way but ideally a little more on top and bottom would then have been nice to have.

This is a wonderful shot of this lion. You snapped this at a nice moment and got a keeper. He certainly exudes the impression of being an in charge guy. The greens of the veg make a nice BG for the gold/tan of his coat. And the butterfly makes for a nice little plus to the comp. Nice.

Thanks everybody for your comments which are much appreciated.

Morkel,
The crop was for me dictated by the direction of movement of the Lion, I wanted plenty of look into space

Great perspective. I hadn't really looked at the butterfly until mentioned by Peter. I felt the overall orientation was fine...but given the butterfly, it occurs to me that if this was cropped vertical with space on the right (and some clockwise rotation to take away the left lean) it would emphasize the butterfly for a completely different feeling. I think that is worth the experiment!

Following the suggestions of Lon and Morkel, I have done yet another version, my original was vertical, but I changed it for posting
