Little Missouri River #2/Repost

This is the second in a series of photos from Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This is a view of the Little Missouri River to the WNW, where a previous post, called "Little Missouri River," is a view to the SW from roughly the same vantage point (and about 4 years earlier).

I like the reflections of the bank in the river, the grass in the foreground, and the deep greens on the left bank.

Please comment and critique.

Location: Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota, USA

Date and Time: September 9, 2013 at 09:57

Equipment: Pentax K-5, Pentax DA 18-55mm WR at 30.63mm, handheld

Exposure: 1/90s, f/13, iso 200

Crop: About 5% of left and bottom to remove partial tree in grove of cottonwoods on left.

Post processing in Lightroom 5: Dodged grass and bushes on left, burned right bank about 0.1 stop, burned white rocks on right bank about half stop, darkened sky. Cloned a few spots out of the sky.

Nice composition with the S curve in the river Randy and nice colors and tones through the scene. I might darken the right river bank slightly to blend into the scene better. But great scene as is. Well done.

Very nice--peaceful. I agree with Bill regarding the river bank. Also the horizon looks like it's titled a little clockwise. The color looks good, but you might pull back on the saturation of the yellows in the river bank just a bit. The composition is quite nice.

Thank you for looking, and for the suggestions, Bill and Preston. Here is a new version with with the yellow luminance reduced throughout, the right bank darkened, and the horizon straightened.

I like the changes.

Comparing this with your previous post from this area is fascinating. I really like the curve of the river, the reflections in the river, and the view of the distant hills. In the earlier post, I thought the foreground grasses were an important part of the image. In this one, I find myself wishing for a view closer to the edge so I can see more of the river. Both are very well done and show off the prairie well.

Mark, thank you for the kind comments. This has been a favorite stop-off point on trips to the Mountain States. The scenery is unique, and the bison and wild horses that thrive in the park are a bonus.

I think you nailed it with the repost, Randy. The light is gorgeous as is the comp and the S curve of the river is fantastic.
