Rain Drops

It was 34 degrees in Central Texas when I shot this yesterday, just before dusk. Below freezing last night, feels like winter's already here. Cooper's Hawk juvenile.

F/4.5, 1/200th, ISO 1000, Canon 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4 ext.

Hi Howard: Lovely image of the Coopers. Nice perch with a great line to it. The one rain drop above the Cooper's head is a bit of distraction for me. If there were a bunch, I'd like them, but in this case, I'd clone it out.

Thanx for your opinion Keith, I appreciate it.

I'll second Keith's comment. The streak above the hawk's head is just too large for me and distracting from an otherwise very nice image.

Hey Howard - love the pose this Cooper's Hawk is giving you and I also like how you composed the shot to also give us a sense of its fall environment. In looking closely at the shot there is evidence of other rain drops (especially in the larger version) but none as large or as bright as the one above its head. I have to admit that my attention was immediately drawn to it when I first looked at the shot, so I guess I'm in the "cloning it out" camp.

cheers
Rick

Great shot Howard! This bird is a major nemesis of mine. I'd love to have one this good. Usually I don't clone my pictures except for dust and trash but I think I would make an exception for this one. It's a pretty distracting rain drop. Are you sure a gull wasn't flying over head? :toast:

I like the repost better.

Lovely image! Nice pose, true colours, and the rain is a great addition. I agree to clone out the one heavy rain streak.

Excellent pose and composition, I like the repost but the heavy rain drop doesn't bother me in the larger version because so many of the drops become more visible. Either way excellent shot!

That's a beauty Howard, I do think the repost is an improvement, I haven't made it out shooting in this cold weather. Love the browns and the subtle rain streaks in the bg as well as the comp. :toast:

Beautiful detail, Howard and I like the composition. 34 degree rain is really ugly stuff-we get lots of it. For the record, I agree about the bold rain streak.

Nice capture of this hawk Howard. I like the overall comp and think the image could stand as posted, but I do agree with Keith and Rich- and the repost improves an already solid image IMO.
