Mount Evans Sky

This is a late evening view to the west from the peak of Mount Evans. I like the rays from the sun, but wish that the sun was in view.

Please comment and critique.

Location: Peak of Mount Evans in Colorado, USA

Date and Time: August 8, 2012; 18:47

Equipment: Pentax K-5, Pentax DA 18-55mm WR at 18mm, handheld

Exposure: 1/2000s, f/5.6, iso 200

Crop: None

Post Processing in Lightroom 5: Reduce exposure 1/2 stop, reduced contrast, reduced orange hue to make the low part of the sky a bit golden, dodged the foreground to add some detail, and dodged the light spot on the right to draw attention.

Good horizontal format to frame the sky and the mountains that are separated into several layers by brighter and dark area, well balanced color and light, impressive sunlight rays that penetrating from cloudy day, good discovery and good capture to the awesome natural phenomenon, distinct photo, good shot. Well done Randy.

Very nice light across the scene Randy and I like the layers in the mountains. Nicely captured scene. Well done.

Interesting layering and nice directional beams. I, personally, would like it better with a bit more contrast. The fg hills seem a bit "muddy" to me. I know you chose to dodge them to increase the detail but I'm not sure details are all that important in this particular composition. I'm wondering what it would look like with the darker hills. I love the sky and IMO it should be the main emphasis.

Lovely, soft tones throughout this very well composed image, Randy. The balance between the cloudscape and the landscape is very impressive..

Thanks for the comments, everyone, and for the suggestion, Nancy. The original photo had an almost black background. I will see what it looks like again and may repost.

Here is a new version of the image changed to a 16:10 crop to remove some of the foreground. The foreground has been burned to draw more attention to the sky.
