Abandoned Farmhouse/Repost

This morning, I enjoyed the arched windows and the glow from the early morning sun on the stone wall of this abandoned farmhouse under the rapidly changing sky. I would have preferred to crop out much of the right, but that action would chopped the tree.

Please comment and critique.

Location: South of La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA, near the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Date and Time: November 23, 2013; 08:37

Equipment: Pentax K-5, Pentax DA 55mm f/1.8, Kenko circular polarizer, handheld

Exposure: 1/125s, f/8, iso 100

Crop: 5% from left, tilted right 5 degrees

Post Processing in Lightroom 5: Dodged grass in foreground, windows, doorway, and dark areas near and under trees. Burned white parts of cupola.

I really like this shot. The clouds give a wonderful texture and contrast with the stone of the building. I wonder what it would look like if the building were shifted to the left or the right so that it was off-center a bit more. That's all I can think of that might improve it for my eye.

Very nice,

Todd

Randy, nicely taken! These old building hold so many stories we will never hear. Like how you worked with the light. Only nit for me is that dark area on the left side of the photo sort of wedge shaped. I do find it distracting and think you could crop it out without hurting the photo. Thanks for sharing.

Todd and John, thank you for looking and for your suggestions. Here is a version where I have opted to leave the trees in either side of the house, but have removed the dark spot on the left.

I would prefer the house to be off-center, but want to leave the full trees in view.

Beautiful building and this is a nice subject to photograph. You've had some nice warm light and you did a good jon capturing this scene. I also love the clouds in the sky.

Randy, I love old buildings and this one has lots of character! Some very nice light and conditions you captured this in too. I like the original better than the repost but that may be just because it looks sharper with more detail.

Nick, good point about the sharpness of the original compared to the new version. I'll have to take a look and find out what I did to degrade that image.
