Pale Yellow Robin
by Dennis Plank
If this one's pale, I wish I'd seen the bright one. One of many "Robins" in Australia. I once asked Rob Drummond what they had in common and it turns out they're all flycatchers (hence the beak). This is the Nana subspecies which is endemic to the little area of NE Queensland we were visiting. It's distinguished by the buff coloration from the lore to the eye. Locally, it was fairly common.
7D, 300mm f4 + 1.4 TC, hand held, f6.3, 1/80, Av mode with no compensation, iso 1000. Processed in CS6 and cropped from the sides. I used two rounds of noise reduction with Neat Image, but I was very pleased with the performance of the 7D and the software at these settings. I also sharpened the bird using the CS6 smart sharpen function. I thought about trying to tone down the bright area beside the bird but thought I'd run it by as-is to see how people thought about it.
Your comments and criticisms are most earnestly solicited.
