My entry to the [thistle] gallery. This bush was a popular spot for several American Goldfinches, who didn't seem to mind the thorns at all. Reminds us that there is beauty and purpose in all of nature. Taken at the Barn Island Wildlife Management Area in Stonington, CT. Powershot SX-30, 878mm, hand-held, ISO 80, f/5.8, 1/100, manual white balance, and matrix metering. Since then, have now been carrying a tripod in my car. Comments and suggestions always welcome!
I should note that the focal length is the 35mm equivalent on the small sensor of the Powershot.

This looks just like the large 'explosion' of thistle I had here awhile back Jim.
The Goldfinch really brings a lot this image, great entry for this theme!
The only suggestion I have is a small crop off the top where it lightens up..
Well done :toast:

Goldfinches do love thistles and this is a fine look at both. 878mm hand-held is pretty amazing.

Great catch of this beautiful bird enjoying the thistle seeds. We have a feeder where we just put in thistle seeds for the goldfinches. . .they add welcome flashes of sunshine to my gardens. I like his pose, busily chewing on that seed but watching what you are about. The pink, yellow, and green all work very nicely together but I wish the gray area in the background was also green but, oh well. I like all the stages of thistle growth you've captured in this image also.
