Stopping By
by John Williams
My daily commute is a “massive” four miles, and about half-way there I pass a field. For years it was a hay field that was mowed twice a year, but several years ago it was planted with natural vegetation and is being reclaimed as a wetland. Throughout the year, it's my daily dose of photography day-dreaming. As the grasses cycle, the early and late lights play across it, the fog rolls in and out, spring flowers and fall leaves come and go, etc., I have about 20 seconds to be reminded of how much I enjoy the camera as an excuse to get away from the daily grind.
I've been watching fall color develop along the edges, and last weekend we had a couple of foggy mornings. I decided to stomp around my “backyard” for a little while and see what I could come up with. This image is one of those. The saturation is a little heavier than what was there, but I went that way to match the dreams that float through my head as I make my daily drive.
