Here is a view of the Little Missouri River in Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. I can understand how Teddy Roosevelt, who ranched in the area, lived what he called "the strenuous life" while there.

Equipment: Pentax K110D with DA 18-55mm at 20mm, handheld

Exposure: 1/125 s, f/6.7, iso 200

Crop: Full frame

Post Processing: The sky and foreground grass have been burned. Slight vignettes in the upper corners were dodged.

Although I am definitely wanting more sky action/interest, the rest of the scene is SO peaceful. Nice shot! :toast:

Very peaceful scene with beautiful gold tones Randy. Nice comp with the river flowing through the scene. Can't believe how flat it is there. Well done.

You know, this is one image where I believe the less-than-dramatic sky actually works better for the image. It is an overall peaceful, tranquil scene. Good processing, by the way. Again, nothing too harsh or dramatic, but just enough darkening top & bottom to be subtle, yet effective.

Beautiful sunrise look at a neat prairie river scene. The touch of foreground grass and the winding river look perfectly placed.

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone. For some reason, this photo is my bestseller (pennies per sale of course) on a stock photography site. Perhaps images of scenes in North Dakota are uncommon.

Yes, Bill, it is flat compared to BC. Most of TR National Park is hillier than what is seen in this image. It has become a favorite destination within a very long one-day drive for me (about 650 miles). It has nice herds of bison and wild horses.

I lie the light & shadow/time of day, the large view's very nice Randy..
It's a great POV and comp, like the FG grasses and river winding through the frame in a lazy S..
Well done! :toast:

Randy, the view from this vantage point is excellent. However, I also think the image benefits mostly from this superb light. I would personally not change a thing, very nicely done.

Beautiful shot Randy. The composition flow is perfectly mixed with that golden light. I really like the foreground detail in the larger version too. A personal preference would be to warm the sky slightly to better match the light below.

Thanks for the additional kind comments. In this new version of the photo, three spots (possibly birds) have been removed from the sky, and the sky warmed up a tad. This 300kb version displays a moire pattern, though.

Hi Randy, I sure am enjoying this beautiful image. I really like your comp, and the light and color look wonderful. The feeling I get from this image is what I enjoy the most, and your larger version sure puts me there. I have spent some time in North Dakota and along the Little Missouri River which I liked very much. I also enjoyed the time I spent in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Very nice work Randy! It is a little over 800 miles for me.

Nick, thank you for the additional kind words. I headed over to the Mississippi River this morning to capture some images, and enjoyed the drive from La Crosse to DeSoto, WI, about 70 miles to your west.

Randy, Hey, I almost drove over to the river this morning myself! Your 70 mile estimate is right on for me! The Roadhouse just north of DeSoto has awesome pizza too in case you get hungry while in the area. Think I will drive over sometime this coming week now. Nick
