It's spring down here and this Red-browed Finch is trying to impress with a courtship display of holding a long grass stem.

Canon 7D, EF500 f/4 + 1.4x, tripod, ISO400, f/6.3, 1/2000, cropped for composition. Photographed near Canberra, Australia.

What a beautiful looking bird, never heard of nor seen this species before. But then I've never been to the land down under. Wonderful light on a wonderful perch and well the show off display with the courting display is just icing on the cake. Well done! :toast:

Incredible image with the nice colors of the bird and the wonderful behavior being displayed as if he is passing the time by chewing on some grass

This is super cool  He is certainly impressing me! Great shot of this handsome little guy in full courtship mode. Excellent detail, and great background.

Great Shot Simon!!!

Great little bird with bright colours, nice pose, and excellent behaviour.
I'd be tempted to try a pano format to cut down the dead space above and below.
Nice!

Cute looking finch Simon. Colours and detail look great. That grass stem is just bizarre, even on the large version it looks as though it has been pasted to the tip of its beak

Very cool shot with nice light, perch and BG and a beautiful bird. Maybe the long stem is the human equivalent of presenting a dozen long stem roses to your sweetheart.

Very nice Simon - perch is a little dominating, but I really like the courtship behaviour

Gorgeous image, Simon. I love the lines and the bright finch really works as the focus of the whole thing.

Very cool Simon, what a nice long prize he's holding there, I do wish more of the grass stem were in focus, stopping down a bit more would have helped there. :toast:
