Mushrooms and Moss

My plan was to capture images of some of the thousands of tundra swans that lay over in a pool of the Mississippi River near Weaver, Minnesota, on their trip south. They will leave when the river ices up. But, because of the dreary weather conditions, I photographed mushrooms instead.

These tiny mushrooms are about 2.5 cm apart. A macro lens might have improved the outcome, but the only weather resistant lens I had along was 300mm. The leaves in the background distracted from the scene, so have been burned quite a bit.

Please comment and critique.

Equipment: Pentax K-5, DA* 300mm F/4, tripod

Exposure: 0.5 sec, f/19, iso 100

I like the warmth of this scene, although I do have to say that it doesn't see, to have the dof I would expect from f/19, probably due to the slow shutter. a larger apeture and faster shutter speed might have served a bit better. This is quite nice as is, I keep looking for an elf.

This is nice, Randy. I like the warm tones and the way you separated the moss and mushrooms from the bg. Good job to blur the bg in pp.

Good comp, utilizing thirds positions. I tend to agree with Nancy; blurring backgrounds in post processing is always a pain in the tukas. Best to do it in camera.
