Yellows and pink

I joined the ranks of photographers in Zion this fall for the first time and enjoyed the colors and weather. This photo has a lot going on in it and I'm wondering if it has too much. I liked the yellows of the rabbit brush as well as the cottonwoods, so tried to get it all in.

Comments and critiques welcome. I learn by my mistakes, though I like compliments too!

Canon 5d Mk3, ISO500 (hand held), f/11, 35mm, 1/60.

I really like the layers of color on the left half but the impact seems to dwindle as my eyes move to the right. A crop to vertical would solve that, at least for my tastes. There are few things as pretty as those golden trees against red sandstone.

Beautiful scene and I like your composition. The fall colors stand out nicely against the rock background.

I think you captured the scene pretty well but maybe not under the best lighting conditions. If i'm being critical sure what the subject is. I would be interested in cutting in image in half and keeping the left side. Then you have a nice display of southwestern color and texture in the fall, but everyone has different styles?

Kathy, the colors are very nice and the subtle lighting shows them off well. One of the major challenges in photographic composition is "what to leave out". Think of your picture as a telling a very short story. The brevity makes it vital that the elements all work towards a common goal. In this case, it seems to me that the diagonal of the river and the rock formation in the upper right (both very attractive in their own ways) are not helping tell the story of the fall colors set off by the red rocks.

I like this a lot Kathy. Not too much at all IMO. It's very nice to see something original from Zion!

I think it is a very nice scene.

Could use maybe a tab brightening up on my monitor. Maybe just a little busy. Still nice!
