Madison River Elk

I found this small band of cows and calves along the Madison River in YNP. I wished that they had been facing me, but it was not to be. Liked the moody feel.

Comments critiques welcome.

This is very well done Jerry. Love the calm peaceful mood created by the fog and your choice of composition. Sure, a bit of a "bummer" that they are looking away, but it is also very natural and rather expected. Techs look great as well, so nice to be able to use 100 iso.

I like this Jerry. Nice serene mood with the misty air and even, subdued light. It doesn't both me at all that the cows and calf weren't facing you as their heads are down so it's kind of a non-issue. Nice quiet, emotional feeling. I picture myself sitting on the back porch, hot coffee in hand, and watching this group feed. You certainly got some great images this past summer and fall.

Hey Jerry,

Very nice scene - I really like how the scene goes from having nice (and sufficient) contrast in the foreground to a low-contrast, foggy wonderland in the background - that natural transition is real sweet. I also like the "line" of the elk and how there is no overlap between any of their bodies. Having the little tyke at the back of the line adds interest as well. Yes, a bit of a shame that none gave you a head to work with, but to my thinking if just ONE did it would break the harmony of the scene (meaning that they'd ALL have to be pointed in your direction and giving you a head). Wildlife do what they do!

Nicely done - cheers...

Brad
