Rufous Night Heron
by Dennis Plank
We've just returned from three weeks in NE Queensland, Australia and I'm starting to go through the images. This one is also known as the Nankeen Night Heron and is native to most of Australia.
Lots of credit is due to other people for this one. Del Richards was our bird guide (Fine Feathered Tours) and Ian “Sauce” Worcester (Daintree River Wild Watch) was our boatman. Both of whom I highly recommend to anyone going to tropical Northeast Queensland. My wife, Michelle, spotted the bird and Sauce positioned us perfectly for photographing it-all I had to do was click the shutter release!
5Diii, 300mm f4 + 1.4TC, handheld from boat, f5.6, 1/125, iso 3200. Processed in CS6 with noise reduction using Neat Image. One distracting twig removed and a little burning of some brighter areas. Cropped to 17.8 MP. Taken October 20th at 5:05 pm Queensland time (I didn't reset the cameras, so I'm hoping I have the time conversion correct). Location was Barratt's Creek off the Daintree river.
As always, your comments and criticisms are most appreciated.
Thanks for looking,

Have a great weekend, bet you're glad to be home?
The colors, detail and exposure are spot on with a very nice environment and BG.
Sounds like you had a great trip and can't wait to see more images from it.
From a boat on the river is the best . . .
The first thing that stands out to me... is the wonderful lighting. I'm enjoying the Larger Photo. Great detail and colors. Excellent image
