Kananaskis Sunset

Went on a hike with some co-workers last weekend at the Upper Lake in Kananaskis (AB). Hung out at the end of the day looking for moose. Didn't find any, but realized the sunset was turning into something stunning so tried to get to this location.

Missed most of the colour, but was able to bring some of it back with post-processing. Used a combination of Photoshop (oil paint filter), NIK Color Efex and Topaz Simplify - multiple layers and blends... basically had fun playing!

5d Mark II, 1/10 sec at f/5.6, ISO 1600, 28mm (will post the Original below)

Hi Karen,
Love it! I know the area well. The oil paint effect is one of my favorites.

Karen, this is a beautiful scene. The original photo is nice, but I like the final version even better.

Karen... lovely work! Now, to put a little bug in your ear... have this printed up on canvas, then buy clear acrylic gels and acrylic paints an then start painting over your photographic canvas mimicing what is underneath. Pretty radical thought, but one of the pieces I get the most comments on in my house is a photograph I did that with. Stylize a photo on canvas, then paint with wild abandon over it. It's the new "paint by numbers"...

I really dig the effects you applied to the image. It sings to me. Very creative. I was up your way last week for the Banff Film Festival. Such a pretty area you live in, photo ops abound. I haven't gotten around to using the filters, but you have opened my eyes with this. :toast:

You did a great processing job. It turned out beautiful. I would not have known it was a photograph.
