A Flock of Sanderlings

I am not sure whether to post this shot or not, because it could easily be one on those shots that people think "yes, and...?" - probably you must have been standing next to me in windforce 7 with salty water hitting you from behind while trying to frame a flock of speedy little stilts..... Anyway, I recommend the larger version for better judgement...

Nikon D4 @ 700mm | 1/2000s | f7.1 | ISO360 | Underexposed 1FS | handheld

Thanks for viewing ! :wavey:

Hans, if you handheld that big honkin' 700 and got 7, count them, 7 speedy little Sanderlings in perfect focus, then you need a phone booth to change into your Superman outfit! Just wonderful, Sensei! :toast: :toast:

Well, six, now that I look close.

Thanks Phil, hahaha... Actually the lens is 500 + 1,4 Extender, but still quite heavy   , And yes : one is definitely OOF... The slowest of them  , Hans

Agreed that this is a really good image. Just love to have the birds coming right at you. Love the birds and the BG. Only 2 things I would change. First would be to move the watermark lower to clear the bird. Second would be to darken the LLHC a bit. It is too bright for my old eyes. Is it a part of the surf?

This is one of those shots that separates the men from the boys, and anyone who has tried to capture one of these birds even on land would probably agree! They are SUPER fast! Love the one in the upper middle with it's head cocked to you! Fantastic! Sharon

Wow, thanks all for your reactions - :wavey: .
@ Peter Cross:
- the left corner is the spray of the surf indeed, I doubted what to do, but since it shows to me how the situations was yesterday at the beach I decided to keep - maybe darkening it a little is a good idea though, thanks !
- the copyright line is here to protect my images - so I always deliberately place it in the middle

Beautiful photo of sanderlings and the miracle of flight. The simple background is perfect, the bit of white in the lower left adds to the artistic feel. Nice choice of crop. :toast:

Super shot Hans. 700mm handheld - no mean achievement.
The only thing I don't like is the white cloud in the bottom LH corner. :toast:

Glad you posted it! :-)
Congrats on the WP - but the watermark might be a bit lower so it doesn't hit the bird -
