Sacramento NWR, CA 7D, 500/F4+1.4, F8, 1/400, -0.33 EC, beanbag, first light. This doe was in a most cooperative mood, standing for the buck within photo range in good light. Is the screening vegetation a problem or does it add to the image? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey David,

Well, the screening vegetation keeps this as a PG shot and avoids the audience-limiting XX rating - so in that regard it's probably more of a blessing than a problem!

Hard to do too much with a documentary shot like this - so I find it challenging to make much in the way of creative suggestions. One comment about the light: I get that this was shot in real warm light, but it still seems a bit overly warm (and orange) to me - even the whites are on the orange/brown side (and it's my experience that unless one is standing by a forest fire, light is almost never warm enough to completely alter the whites). If this was a raw capture (I'm assuming it was), and if this was my shot, I'd consider experimenting with the white balance a little...

Cheers...

Brad

The screen sure fulfills a function indeed  . Great light and good detail here David. The saturation is a bit on the high side.

I sure would like to see it after a little diddling with the white balance. The details in the subjects and middle-ground are really good.
