A Frosty Morning
by Chris Moore
Spent last week in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park hoping to time the fall colors. This year was hit or miss, and towards the end of the week we had some over night freezes and even snow at higher elevations. I went out to Cades Cove three mornings in a row, and had a particular composition in mind that I set up for, but when the sun began to rise this scene unfolded down the road in front of me. I grabbed my long lens and ran down the road and made a few handheld shots before the soft light became too harsh. I hope you like it. Any suggestions for improvement welcome. Thanks for looking.
Tech: single exposure processed in LR with a very minor curves adjustment in PS.

18 commentsVery nice image. I just love the feel....makes me want to be there and go for a walk down the road. I like the soft look as well. If there were anything... I might crop off a little bit of the left side so the tree doesn't seem so centered in the frame...maybe crop out that green deciduous tree? I don't know Chris, just throwing it out there.(that is being really picky Chris)its pretty difficult to find anything to improve on.
Excellent! Love it!

Gorgeous! Don't think it's been mentioned yet, but a painting comes to mind for me. I can't think of any suggestions what so ever!

Marvelous winter photo. The perfectly lit tree is the main focal point of this photo. There is a great use of depth of field to hold the viewer along the whole snow covered road, and the excellent lighting conditions have allowed for very good color saturation. The overall impact is very strong. Very well done.
