Lynx

So I was photographing a waterfall yesterday in Glacier National Park, when I had one of those feelings of being watched. I glanced behind me and sure enough a lynx was staring at me. I grabbed my large lens and went to work. I was able to capture six images before he disappeared into the woods. This is my favorite of the series.

Comments, critique and suggestions always welcome.

Happy Shooting
Jack

Tech stuff: Canon7D, Canon EF500mm/f5 IS, f/5.6, 1/250 sec, ISO-640, tripod. Image crop 25% Bottom and right

Great close view of this beauty! Nice sharpness on the lynx as well with the eyes being the focus. I see some very strange magenta in the lynx's coat. I wouldn't expect the colors of the rock to be reflected onto the lynx? Should be an easy fix in post though and well worth a bit of tweaking.

Jack,

Now this is what I call a "grab" shot.
Whilst I have no idea what colour a Lynx is, I agree with Gary on the Magenta definitely worth another go at processing :toast:

That's one of the great things about nature photography - you never know what you'll see next, and one of our biggest challenges as a photographer - is to be ready when those opportunities present themselves. I think you did a great job of that here Jack. Well done.

Jack,
That is one ‘Cool Cat’ . . .
Masterful on this grab shot, excellent pose and detail in the Lynx. The environment is also stunning with the BG and the Rocks. The crop is perfect and all these elements together makes for an Outstanding Image.
Well Done . . .

Holy cow. That's an encounter to remember. Can't say I've seen any good wild lynx shots from Montana. Love the setting here. Great job, Jack.

Must have been a great experience. You handled it well photographically. I like the stare of the lynx. Thanks for sharing this experience with us.

Terrific encounter! In addition to tweaks suggested by others, I feel you can optimize this image with a crop if you have enough remaining pixels, cropped from the left to minimize the relative weight of the rock. You might even try a vertical presentation. Neat capture!

Great experience! Nice portrait too, they are hard to find in the wild I am told.
I would tone down the blue-ish tone in the cat's coat?
