Detail of a rock in the intertidal zone at Hammonassett State Park in CT this week. For this assignment on texture, I wanted to find a subject that conveyed a distinct tactile sensation. I liked the diverse surfaces in this shot: the smoothness of the shells and the coarser rock surface contrast with the tiny marine life structures. Sony Nex-6, Sony zoom lens at 75mm (equivalent), ISO 100, f/22, 1/60s.

Plenty of texture(s) to review in this one, Jim. I always like these abstract scenes that provide a bit of an aerial view look to them, such as we see here.

Very creative and interesting find, Jim. It has been amazing to see all the variety of textures that people have found for this challenge. Good comp with the spacing of the larger shells, and how the areas of darker rock are interspersed with the little white structures. The lighting looks to be fairly bright mid-day and, while the exposure is okay, later or earlier lighting may have helped to accentuate the interesting textures in this scene.
