I photographed this bull elk in Yellowstone last fall. He came into a meadow with his harem at dusk and began bugling.

Comments, critique and suggestions always welcome.

Happy Shooting
Jack

Tech stuff: Canon7D, 500mm lens, f/5.6, 1/250 sec, ISO-400, tripod. Image crop 25% Top and right

This frontal pose on elk really makes them appear rather scary and bizarre, especially when the head is crowned with a rack like this! I like the flies around the elk, adds to the realism. Well done.

A technically very solid image Jack with great detail, nice DOF and good processing. :toast:

Nice frontal view of a classic moment. Wish I had one like this. I like the bits of detritus flying off in the wind too.

Not sure about the composition/crop, as the elk seems like he's in "no man's land." Not quite centered, not quite off to the side enough. It feels somewhat unbalanced to me. I think either a tighter crop turning it into a vertical composition, or a wider crop with more room on the right could be more effective.

Impressive capture of a classic moment. Details are crisp with well managed dof.

Hi Jack this is a great shot, with good lighting and detail. Since the bull appears to be looking directly at the camera, I think I would favour a slightly more centred composition. Classic shot - well done.

Nicely captured shot. As far as comp goes, have you considered a vertical?
