During my month in Costa Rica earlier this year, I visited Selva Verde Lodge on a scouting trip. On one of the night walks, my guide and I found this crimson-webbed tree frog. It was the first time my guide had seen this species in the area, so he was pretty excited.

Canon 1DX
Canon 100mm macro
Canon MT-24ex flash
ISO 800
1/80th
f/11

Beautiful image. Excellent composition and detail. Fascinating the pose of the frog, she seems to jump.

You caught this frog in a very alert pose as if it was just about ready to jump. I like the BG treatment. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys. I believe for this one I took advantage of the flexibility in the MT-24's removable flash heads, asking my guide to hold one up and to the side a bit to provide a bit of side lighting. I was pleased with the results and hope to work more with different flash positions in the future.

I agree with the others about composition and lighting, but what I like most about the image is the mood--it puts me in a contemplative mood. Love it!

Sweet! Maybe a little less black would be better (slight crop of top and/or rhs) The space is part of the story, but the frog is the real star here and should take priority.
