Like almost everyone else it seems, I couldn't resist a trip to northern Minnesota this winter. Today was my first day in the Sax-Zim bog and I just had a wonderful time. Owls were everywhere......including this cooperative Northern Hawk-Owl. Canon 1DII, 600 f/4, overcast skies.

Brian -
This is the best hawk owl shot I've seen from up there so far.
Great perch and BG.

Nice! The weather in Minnesota is probably better than that of LA.

Hi Brian

A beautiful image.

The bird/perch look brighter than the BG, was this through post processing or was FF used at the time?

Thanks everyone..........

Wayne, I'm not sure what you're seeing...........I don't think I did anything special in the post processing but this was done on a laptop FWTW...............and what is FF?

Hi Brian

FF = Fill flash.

The BG colours appear subdued as would be expected with overcast skies, but the subject/perch appear to be in different lighting. Not a nit, just an observation that raised my curiosity.

Great background, awesome shot!! Admit it now...this is your own perch, right? Everything is too perfect for it not to be a set shot!!

Great shot. How lucky you were that he perched on such a colorful branch. The colors in this shot are amazing.
