Manits at noon

Found this mantis on our yard fence right at noon. But, still took photos of it. It was very cooperative, and my hat brim provided some shade over it when I was taking some close-ups. I was able to brace the foot of the monopod on the fence when taking this shot.

Excellent in your face portrait of this mantis, John. I like the head tilt and antennae, the excellent detail in the head/face, and the otherwise shallow dof and soft bg.

These are amazing critters. You caught this one very nicely with a sharply focused head with lots of detail. Nice OOF BG and soft focus to the rest of the body giving one a sense for the entire animal. Nicely seen.
