Great Blue on the move

Great blue herons are another attraction of the Hood Canal. They usually fly in before the eagles as the tide recedes and make for good flight photo practice before the eagles start flying. On this particular morning because of the already low light, I decided to shoot entirely with a slow shutter speed and small aperture. Out of 250 photos I shot of flying herons, I kept three, this one being my favorite.

Canon MKIV, 600mm, 1/15, f16, ISO 100, manual exposure setting

All your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Very interesting Ken, I like the texture of the background and how the heron's head seems more in-focus than anything else.

Ken...I like this and the sense of graceful motion. I would consider working on making the eye a little more defined. Glad you shared this. Sharon

Ken this looks like a nice accidental shot to me. I do like parts of the shot however the blur in front of the face is distracting. I do agree with the contrast suggestion.
