The Brave Little Buck

Yesterday I was out at the nature area before sunrise and the light was really poor. I soon came upon a small group of deer that were milling about seemingly not knowing what to do. I think they were wanting to come my way but were hesitant with my being close by. After a short time, this little spike buck started walking towards me and looked me straight in the eye and apparently decided I was no menace to him and calmly walked past me. This apparently gave the rest the courage to make the journey as well. I know it's giving human qualities to wildlife, but I have to think this little guy was trying to show the others that I was okay. Anyway, he's now my favorite at the nature area as he was a brave little deer. This photo is kind of an experiment. As the light was so poor, I had my lens opened up, a shutter speed as low as I thought I could go, and an ISO of 6400. It looks reasonably decent except that there is noise in the BG. But it was either that or no photo. And I did want a photo of this little guy. Comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated.

I like this one a lot! Must look at the larger image! I do not find the noise objectionable. Frankly Peter, I am amazed at your results using the just the 70-200 and 1.4 TC. Thanks for sharing.

Love the inquisitive and innocent looking expression, very endearing. Nice background color and oof characteristics, there is noise visible at the larger view but not objectionable really. I feel that a little more room at the bottom to reveal more of the body might be helpful.

This works as a close portrait. Maybe a bit of brightness enhancement?
