Treasure

This is Treasure Falls on Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado. I've always admired images with soft flowing water and rich green foliage. When I had the chance to visit this area recently, I saw an opportunity. I prefer this comp where you can't see the entire fall, which is certainly not typical for this subject.

Wow, this is top notch Russell. You pegged the color balance perfectly and the composition is lovely. I wish the blur was there in the bushes but that's very minor. This is a beauty!

Yup Bill, it was a dilemma for me because the fall created the movement, not wind. So, I don't know how this image could be made without movement in the leaves. I welcome suggestions on how to solve that problem.

nicely done. yes, utopia is the image without the blur in the leaves. With digital imagery, you can make blends, one with a quicker shutter speed to eliminate the blur and the blend afterwards ....

Pretty scene Russ, definitely like the comp and color, I know what you mean, get around rushing water and you are going to get movement in the foliage around it. I like the scene, and the little bit of movement really doesn't mean much, kind of natural to the scene itself. Beautiful work.

Very nice scene and you photographed it very well. Nice blur and color. I did not even notice the blur until I read the posts. Nice image.

My first thought was: cut a bit off the top where the straight fall would not have quite so much canvas. The braided fall makes this picture; its source is good to note, but it and the heavy rock face makes the picture feel a bit top-heavy to me. The blur is not a problem for me, but Stuart made a suggestion for blending that would be good for another try at it.

Nice work here. A little darker big rock upper right as to my preference, :toast:

This is nice,Russ. The rich greens and silky water are very appealing. Though i haven't seen other images of treasure falls I like the way you composed this. Well done. Chet

I do feel it is a little cut off up top, but really like the comp, lines and colors. Nice image.

Nice flow throughout the entire image! A 'winner' for sure... I'd be incredibly excited to have this in my gallery if I were you. My only thought is that the main falls, or column of water, at the very top, seem to be tilted a bit. Almost as if the image needs to be rotated counter-clockwise (maybe not...). I really enjoyed the large version---thanks for posting this one!

This is superb, Russell. Love the textures in the water and the wonderful greens in the foliage. I really like your composition; the column of the falls adds a more graphic element to what could have ended up as simply a waterfall shot. Foliage that is not moving rarely happens near falls of any volume in my experience and for me shooting film, blurred foliage is a given. A beautiful image.
