Yellowstone Moose

I came across this bull and a companion bull during my recent Yellowstone trip. Both bulls were bedded down in a creek drainage just off the road. Their antlers were visible, but they were a long way away. I decided to climb a ridge that ran close to the bulls and managed to cut the distance to less than a hundred yards. As it turned out, only one of the bulls was still visible after my long stalk. Lucky for me, it was the larger bull. However, he was still bedded down with only his antlers visible. As luck would have it, a tourist from the road decided to walk directly toward the bull; I guess to get a better photo with the point and shoot camera that he carried. I watched as the man closed the distance. I also kept my eye on the bull. Pretty soon, the bull locked in on the guy and began to get up from his bed. That is the moment that I captured here. You can tell by the bulls eyes that he is locked in on the guy. The bull eventually stood fully erect and stared at the guy. Luckily the guy stopped and returned to the road. I'm not sure the bull would have stood before daylight expired, if the guy hadn't decided to approach him.

Comments and critiques welcome.

Interesting story behind the image. I think we all have had this type of experience. Good looking bull moose, but I would liked to have seen more of him. I do like that you have detail in his coat and those big palmated antlers. It does appear to have a slight magenta cast, maybe just my monitor. Thanks for posting.

Good looking bull and nice colors. I too would like to see more of the bull.

I like the feel of this. I agree with tweaking the color just a little.
