Thanks for your comments and input on my previous post!

Here is another one from Fiji. I fell in love with the rock formations on this bit of coastline… waited for days for a spectacular sunrise
What nature offered was a start of the day more like a breaking eggshell than a volcanic eruption

Making this shot was a very slippery affair on the wet rocks and probably a bit silly with hindsight – but both my gear and I came out in one piece.
Please view large.

You captured the black rock nicely. Here in Hawaii, we have black rock all over the place and it is difficult getting the right exposure on it. If you don't mind, what was your ISO, F-stop, and SS on this? Thank you kindly.

Well, I wouldn't have guessed Fiji for a location. Wonderful shoot and a very somber mood. The light on the rock is wonderful plus you have that ominous sky and steel gray water. The sunrise is the only bit of warmth in the scene. Nicely seen and composed. Is this black rock is all volcanic in origin?

Great mood :jump: Looks like you've just escaped the gates of Hell and have made it to the light!

Daniel, the technical data is f16, ISO 100, 1,3s exposure. I double processed the same RAW file, once for the rocks and once for the sky.
Peter, that whole island (Taveuni) is supposed to be of volcanic origin

The orange in the distance contrasts the otherwise grayish image. Love it. :toast:

Nicely done, Karsten. The comp is lovely and I really like the hint of direct sunlight without a sunstar!

The large version is a must see in order to appreciate the finer details in the foreground.

Wonderful rich sensual scene. The low angle works particularly well.
