WC602 Late Arrival

A tanker shortly after it's arrival at the Valdez Marine Terminal. It was about 5 minutes after midnight but In Alaska during June that's about as dark as it gets. To keep the noise down in the shot I used a tripod, a lower ISO setting and a longer exposure.

Sony R1, ISO-160, f6.3, 1/2 sec.

Several years ago, I met one of these coming down Valdez Inlet. From a half a mile away, I could read "NO SMOKING" under the bridge, without the aid of field glasses. It makes one wonder!

Again, quite the mixture of man & nature in this shot, Gary. I really like the mixture of warm and cool lighting in this too. Nice comp of the various elements and I like the starbursts on the lights. Your horizon is almost straight but the ship feels cockeyed a bit from this angle. . .makes me wonder if just a very slight counter-clockwise turn might be helpful? Also, I think, if this were mine, I would clone out the building in the bottom left corner, but that is minor. Well done, especially for midnight.

I sure like how warm the tanker and dock lights are and how strongly they contrast with the cool blues of dusk (even if it was after midnight). I also like how you've framed the ship with the tree tops. Might be worth cloning out that lone light from inside the house in the llc, but that's a very minor nit.

Good technique in getting this image. It has a certain appeal with the mix of light. Thanks for sharing.
