Cold Spring Resort WC602

This is what's left of a venerable old historic resort in the Northern Catskills, in Tannersville, NY. I'm obsessed with finding and photographing these places. I chose this photo to post because of the tree on the right; 19th-century landscape artist Thomas Cole often included such a "blasted tree" to symbolize decay or destruction. I'd appreciate comments but have no specific questions or requests. This one is included in a little book I've made to show people in the region who are involved with history; I'd like to get my work better known and further used in that area. Thank you.

Well shown, from a good perspective. I can live with the "blasted tree", and I understand how you wanted to use it. It is pretty dark as is, but can easily be fixed, especially if the original image is RAW. I would also be tempted to clone out the power lines. :toast:

The clarity of the building is outstanding and the sky adds so much with those interesting cloud formations. It would be interesting without the power lines, but they are an integral part of our society. Very well seen and captured.

Pretty cool photo, Nancy. My Dad was born in Cold Spring, so this caught my eye. I like these old places too. the photo makes me want to know more about the history of this building. :toast:

A nice piece of history, Nancy. I am always interested in old buildings and find myself imagining all the different life stories and events that might have been associated with a place like this. The tree fits right in with the story and was probably quite impressive itself at the time the building was new.

Well taken shot of this decaying building. I like the inclusion of the decaying tree. . .helps emphasize the overall sense of this location being in a state of decay and abandonment. Nice comp and great lighting. Lots of interesting details to view, especially in the larger image. Makes one wonder what stories this old place could tell. . . My one thought would to be increase the contrast and/or saturation of the building itself. The sky is quite a vivid blue and almost pulls ones' attention away from the building. I would also vote for cloning out the power lines. Great old find. . . sounds like an interesting obsession.
