Roan Antelope

One of the primary reasons we added Hwange NP to our itinerary this past July besides some prodding from Ken (thanks Ken!) was the chance to see Roan and Sable Antelope. They are present in Kruger (our other destination) but very infrequently seen. Low and behold, we saw this good looking fellow not even 30 minutes after landing in Hwange. As luck would have it, we only saw three Roan in Hwange but did see plenty of Sable and didn't see either in Kruger.

Comments and critiques always appreciated, thanks for looking.

Hi Joe, indeed not a very common sighting, although in certain areas it can be (not sure about Hwange being one of them). You have some good detail here and the flicking tail is a nice touch. I do find the composition a bit too centered. The dark vertical line coming down from the top edge (dead tree trunk?) is a little distracting in the otherwise nice clean BG. Did you get some good sable shots as well?

Nice shot of a fine animal. It nicely shows the environment. The animal is a little to centered for my tastes.

It helps when your target species makes its arrival as hoped, and on schedule. Very nice image here, but will have to add my voice to the chorus singing "too centered". I suspect you may have had your reasons for the crop as presented.

Thanks folks for the feedback. I was traveling all week so this is my first chance to check in. Here's a slightly different crop with a bit more "room" for the Roan to walk into the photograph.
