Two Thomson out for a stroll on a dry pan in southern Kalahari. Although it was rainy season with obvious signs of it, there was not as much rain as we (or the Thomsons for that matter) would have liked.

I would have wished them to come a bit closer, but they were not cooperative at all in that regard.

Your comments and critiques as always greatly appreciated.

WOW there are so many fantastic elements in this image. Only thing I'd change is to crop that top group of clouds out as I don't believe they add any more dramatic effect that the rest of the image doesn't already have.

The larger image works well. Lots of things going on in this photo. IMHO I would not crop any off the top, to me those clouds act as sort of a cap to keep your eye on the photo. It would be nice to see it cropped to compare. Thanks for sharing this must have be exciting to view and record.

The sky is very dramatic Johan. I wonder if there was opportunity to do this in landscape mode and have the gazelles looking into the frame rather than out of it.

Lovely scene John. I guess this needs to be seen REALLY big for better impace as the bucks look very small at this resolution.
In the Kalahari it would be "springbok", relative of the Tommies

Hey Johan, spectacular sky here (looks very familiar:cool:). That sky with its dramatic clouds and rainbow is the main focus of the image and the springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) (we have no Thomson gazelles here in Botswana  ) are a bouns and provide a great sense of scale. In that sense I do not mind them small in the frame. I do wish there would have been more on the pan, that would have made the scene even stronger IMO.

Wow! What a glorious scene, Johan! I, too, wouldn't crop out anything at all. My only wish would have been to have the Tommies positioned to the left of the frame, where the rainbow touches the ground. That would have been wonderful!

Springbok - Of course. I must have been confused.

Thanks for your comments. I have a horizontal taken a bit earlier with the springbok on the other side. They are even smaller though, that's why I choose the vertical version. I'll post it for comparizon, with the top group of clouds croped out as well.
