Fall Crocus

Sorry for the absence-when the rains cease in July, things senesce very quickly around here, so I was busy with other activities. There are a few places around here that have a variety of crocus that blooms a second time after the first fall rains (I really need to get some). I went down the road to a nearby patch this morning to see what I could do with them. This is the first of the results.

5Diii, 180mm f3.5 macro, tripod, f5.6, 1/800, iso 1600 (it was a bit breezy and these are under a tree so they are rather tall and move a lot), Av mode, no compensation. Processed in CS6, full frame. Taken at 9:13 this morning under overcast skies.

Your comments and criticisms are always very much appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Interesting variety of crocus Dennis. I like your comp - but the dark thing in the center BG takes a lot of attention from the flowers for me.

Dennis - Our Autumn Crocuses are already out as well. I like the selective focus on just one of the blooms and the petal textures are well seen.

You may want to reduce the darkness of that triangular patch bottom center of the frame.

Dennis: We NEVER have crocus in our part of the world so I really enjoy this. I don't mind the dark area at the bottom so much but I do wish the OOF FG blooms on the right were not so prominent. Superb focus on the main subject. >=))>

We never, so far as I know, have a second bloom of crocuses here, Dennis, so this is especially nice to see. Lovely airy feel to the image and fine capture of the texture of the main bloom. Interesting overlapping comp - there seems to be a circling movement of the eye through to the distance which I think works well.
