Spirit Island

We recently returned from a trip to the Canadian Rockies. One of my favorite spots was Maligne Lake, where we took a boat trip out to iconic Spirit Island. We only had 10 min. off the boat so I was quickly firing off shots. This is one of my favorites, and has probably been overdone by others, but it's special to me! And yes, the water really is that gorgeous turquoise color.

Canon 60D. 27mm at F/18 for 1/50 sec. ISO 320. Handheld, natural lighting.

Carolyn, I've been looking at this a long time and like it very much. Besides it being a great scene with nice color, there's an asymmetrical balance around the center group of trees that works well. At the same time, the center trees are such a dominant element it's hard to break away from them. I can't decide if it's a problem or not, but that's what stands out to me. At any rate, this is very inviting and engaging.

Carolyn, for only having 10 minutes to scope things out and the shot taken handheld this is very nice. I'd have to say the collection of wonderful colors makes this scene work so well. The pristine water color is really amazing. Looks like the trip had some excellent weather too looking at this image.

This is very nice Carolyn! The contrast and color looks good, and I like the composition.

Looks like it was a wonderful mountain afternoon.

An amazing spot! I can't believe they only give ten minutes out there.

I had this scene as a wall paper mural on my wall growing up. Awesome!

Carolyn: Been there and done that. I begged to stay on the island and come back on a later boat but no mercy by the operators. You really did well on your mad scramble. Thanks for bringing back sweet memories. >=))>

Just went back through my slides to see where I stood when taking Spirit Island. Exact same place! Unfortunately for me the sky is blown out and the water wasn't as high in my image. You brought back good memories of a beautiful and magical spot. Thanks for posting.
